Campfire Starters Episode 1

Firecraft: The practice of starting fires for camping or survival with sustainable fire-starting methods. The presupposition here is you will have a place prepared for your fire, you’ll have kindling, tinder and larger material for the fire, and finally, a means to extinguish the fire.

We’re doing a deep dive into QUICK-FIRE Fatwood and QUICK-FIRE Ferro Rods. We’re going to find out how many strikes a ferro Rod has, when used in the QUICK-FIRE Striker and the QUICK-FIRE Survive, both of which use the same Ferrocerium Rod.

And we’re going to discover how many fires one stick of QUICK-FIRE Fatwood can start.

Let’s use the Fatwood already attached on my QUICK-FIRE Survive.

So, QUICK-FIRE survive as ergonomic finger grips so you know where to hold.

And every ferrocerium rod has a black coating on it. So we’re going to get rid of that first, before we Start this fire and count the strikes. I’m not going to count the Strikes to clean this as strikes being used for starting a fire with the Ferro Rod.

The QUICK-FIRE Striker is for backpackers and for keeping the weight lite weight when packing. Where the QUICK-FIRE SURVIVE has compartments in each end, and is a survival kit. It is much easier to grip.

I’m going to start counting the strikes of the first use of this ferrocerium rod. Now that we have used this fatwood stick and Ferro Rod to start lighting the fires, we’re not going to use them for anything else. The same one every time, and we’re going to record every use.

So that’s fatwood fire number one and the Striker (after the video recount) is at 14 strikes.
